MindsEye already has a sad record and it won't surprise anyone

It's now been a week since MindsEye was officially released, and unfortunately for Build a Rocket Boy, the situation seems to continue to deteriorate by the day. Indeed, while the studio recently shared its intention to release multiple patches to improve the catastrophic state the game has been in since its launch, it appears that for many, the damage is already done. So much so that the title now holds a rather sad record, namely that of the worst game of 2025 on Metacritic.

MindsEye, voted worst game of 2025 so far

In the video game industry, the aggregator Metacritic is considered by many to be a major reference. Bringing together hundreds of renowned media outlets from around the world, it allows the scores of each to be combined to obtain a general average, which is then used to gauge the success of a game. But the media still needs to have had access to the game to test it. This was not the case with MindsEye, which Build a Rocket Boy was careful not to provide to the press before its release, and even after in many cases.

Consequently, due to the lack of scores to display, the Metacritic page for the latter remained largely blank in the days following its launch. But now, enough time has passed, and some media outlets have finally been able to finish the game. The result is clear: with a metascore of 37/100 for eight published reviews, MindsEye is now the worst-rated game of 2025. And even if this could improve slightly with the arrival of new tests in the coming days, we probably shouldn't expect a miracle.

The players are merciless

Suffice it to say that the situation is looking extremely complicated for Build a Rocket Boy therefore, whose future could well be compromised at the end of this first game. It should also be noted that players are not really any kinder to MindsEye, since the latter then obtains an average of 2.5/10 for 311 user reviews on Metacritic. And the same is true on Steam, where 38% of the 1,726 published reviews are "rather negative". It now remains to be seen whether, like titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky before it, MindsEye will be able to right the ship with updates.
