Fantastic Four: We know the length of the next Marvel movie

Fantastic Four: We know the length of the next Marvel movie

How long does it take to introduce a new reality, new characters, and the biggest antagonist of these final phases? This is the question that arises as the release of Fantastic Four, Marvel's first film, approaches. At the dawn of a new era for the franchise, Matt Shakman's film had to be well over two hours long to allow the narrative to unfold properly. Ultimately, the project led by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach follows the trend with two hours and ten minutes on the clock. The information was shared by the AMC website, a theater operator in the United States.

A little longer than Thunderbolts*, less than Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 (2h30), Fantastic Four: First Steps does not radically differ from its predecessors. It is still the second longest film of the final phases, just behind the film directed by James Gunn. It must be said that, like the farewell to the Guardians, this project has a lot to do. It must introduce a whole new team of superheroes as well as prepare for the reunions of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

A big step for the MCU

Since 2019, Marvel Studios has reclaimed the rights to adapt iconic comic book characters. In the early 2000s, when the comic book publisher had not yet thought of making its own films, 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures acquired the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man. Several projects were born and prevented Kevin Feige's company from exploiting them. The arrival of 20th Century Fox within the Disney conglomerate in 2019, however, changed the situation. While Charles Xavier's team made an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, and some are promised a return in Doomsday, Marvel has decided to do things differently for Reed Richards and his cronies.

Tim Story's two films were not great successes, the reboot even less so, and Marvel is starting from scratch with new actors. These are Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bacharach who will lend their features to Reed Richards, Susan and Johnny Storm as well as Ben Grimm. They will also evolve outside the events of the main saga, in another reality. New dynamics, new challenges and above all a reinterpretation of emblematic characters, Fantastic Four: First Steps has a lot to do.

The story should first return to the origins of their powers— a space journey and exposure to cosmic rays — before telling the arrival of Galactus and the Silver Surfer and how these events will push them to their limits. Victor Von Doom being also an essential component of the mythology “Fantastic Four”, The antagonist of Doomsday promises to play a significant role in the post-credits scenes. The answer will be in theaters on July 23.
