Galadriel, one of the most powerful women in Tolkien's universe, suffers from a redundant flaw in the Rings of Power. For two seasons, the blond Elf has repeated the same problematic character trait, without evolving, and the sequel to the Prime Video series must correct this before it tires viewers - and hinders the plot.
The Rings of Power: a Galadriel different from the Lord of the Rings
The Galadriel of the Rings of Power is different from that of the Lord of the Rings, whether in terms of actress, character, or even power. Set hundreds of years before Peter Jackson's films, the Amazon series' plot follows Sauron's evil rise to power in Middle-earth. Loosely based on Tolkien's work, it allows for some departures from the lore that don't please all fans. But this independence from the British novelist's writings isn't the only source of displeasure among viewers. Indeed, Galadriel's character is starting to pose a problem due to a recurring flaw in the first two seasons. A flaw that, incidentally, can also be a quality if it is not too pronounced: credulity.
An overly credulous Galadriel in The Rings of Power
Naivety, candor... Call it what you will. The fact remains that Galadriel is very often duped by the other characters in The Rings of Power. In season 1, the blond Elf sets out to kill Sauron, responsible for the death of her brother Finrod. But instead, she becomes friends, even develops romantic feelings for Halbrand, the human form assumed by the Dark Lord. And in season 2, it's the same old story: the young woman gets fooled again, this time by Adar, the leader of the Orcs, about her Ring, Nenya. It's understandable that the series wants to show us a less mature Galadriel than the one in The Lord of the Rings, but it's important that the character starts to learn from her mistakes. In season 3, which will take place several years after the events of season 2, the Elf must stop being so gullible, or risk boring the audience.
