The controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling continues to be fueled by the conflicting opinions of Hollywood actors and actresses, whether or not they have anything to do with the Harry Potter franchise. This weekend, Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, was questioned about it, and it's now the turn of Nick Frost, the future Hagrid in the HBO series, to speak out on the matter.
Harry Potter: Nick Frost distances himself from J.K.R.
Simon Pegg's famous sidekick Nick Frost will be cast in the HBO series Harry Potter, in which he will play a different Hagrid from the films - you can find out why right here. The 53-year-old British comedian will play a character beloved by fans of the franchise, namely the kind-hearted giant of Hogwarts, protector of the hero and his friends throughout their schooling. Recently questioned by our colleagues at The Observer UK regarding J.K. Rowling's views on trans people, Nick Frost offered a measured opinion, without hesitating to distance himself from the novelist's opinion. As for the question of whether he is worried that the controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling could harm the series, the actor confided that he does not hope it disappears when the series comes out, but rather that it causes a debate.
I don't know. But maybe it shouldn't be ignored? We shouldn't just hope it goes away, because it makes things easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves about it.
Obviously, audiences love Harry Potter far too much not to continue enjoying it, regardless of J.K. Rowling's views on trans people. So it would be surprising if the series were truly impacted by this controversy when it aired on HBO, despite calls for a boycott.
