iOS 26: These features will not be available on all iPhones

WWDC 2025 was an opportunity for Apple to unveil to the world the new features coming to the next versions of its operating systems. Beyond the new numbering system for its operating systems, Apple presented the brand new Liquid Glass interface, which will arrive on iOS 26, among other things.

But the new version of the iPhone OS will not only sport a new design. While WWDC may have disappointed many people, it still allowed Apple to broadly present the new features coming to its various platforms. And as with every new version of iOS, some new features will not be available on older devices. And this is true even if your iPhone is compatible with iOS 26. Here's a quick overview of what you will, or won't, get on your iPhone.

Features related to Apple Intelligence

This was already the case last year when Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, and it won't change this year. So, nothing very surprising. Features related to Apple Intelligence will only be available on the most recent iPhones.

As a result, not everyone will have access to Visual Intelligence on screenshots, Live Translation in Messages and FaceTime, or smart actions in Shortcuts.

Only owners of iPhones 15 Pro, iPhone 16 (and of course the next iPhones to come) will be able to benefit from it.

The 3D effect of the lock screen

Alongside the Liquid Glass interface of iOS 26, Apple has presented new customization options for the iPhone lock screen. To offer "a more vibrant lock screen", Apple offers to apply a 3D effect to the photo displayed in the background to "bring it to life". Furthermore, the time display adapts according to the surrounding space still available in relation to the subject of the image.

Unfortunately, this new feature will only be available if you have an iPhone 12 or higher. If you have an iPhone 11 or a second-generation iPhone SE or later, you'll be crying your eyes out.

Places Visited in Maps

To help you remember the places you visit, Apple Maps will be adding a new option to let you save all the places you visit. Unfortunately, this feature won't be available in France, at least not for now.

On its website, Apple specifies that it will only be accessible in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
