Xbox: Final Fantasy XVI is out, Final Fantasy VII Integrade coming later this year

This week, during Summer Game Fest 2025, Microsoft officially announced during its Xbox Games Showcase that two Final Fantasy games will be coming to Xbox Series X/S this year. These are two titles that were previously exclusive to PlayStation consoles. These are Final Fantasy XVI, already available on Xbox, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which will arrive this winter.

Final Fantasy games are coming to Xbox

Announced at E3 2015, during the PlayStation conference, the Final Fantasy VII remake was until recently a PS4 and PS5 exclusive. A few months ago, the game arrived on PC. Today, we learned that the next-gen version of the game, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, will arrive this winter on Xbox, more than five years after its release on PlayStation. Better late than never, as they say. For the moment, there is no more precise date, but it will arrive before the end of the year. Unfortunately, there is no information regarding a possible release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. We still hope for Xbox players that they will not have to wait another five years. At the same conference, Xbox announced the shadow drop release (i.e., immediately after its announcement) of Final Fantasy XVI, the last installment of the saga which was, again, a PS5 exclusive. The game is therefore available today on Xbox Series X/S.

Note that this is the complete edition of the game, allowing you to discover the story of Final Fantasy XVI with the kaiju monster fights but also the two story-driven DLCs The Rising Tide and Echoes of the Fallen. These two DLCs add quite a few hours of gameplay as well as a new Leviathan: the Eikon.

These two announcements further strengthen the rapprochement between Xbox, Microsoft and Square Enix. As a reminder, the MMORPG game Final Fantasy XIV had already arrived on Xbox last year, more than 14 years after its original release on PC, more than 11 years after the PS3 version, 10 years after the PS4 version and three years after the PS5 version.
