This year, Amazon acquired the entire James Bond franchise, including the creative rights that producer Barbara Broccoli refused to give up. Bad news for 007 fans, since the streaming platform should take advantage of this to mass-produce Marvel-style series and spin-offs... But now the list of directors considered by Prime Video for the next film has just been revealed, and it's exciting for all fans of the saga!
Which director for the next 007?
For the moment, we don't know the next James Bond actor, nor the name of the director who will be will slide behind the camera to film the adventures. Since the announcement of Amazon's acquisition of the franchise, there have been nothing but rumors, including the persistent one about Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Daniel Craig's heir. On the filmmaker side, the name of Christopher Nolan comes up regularly, especially since the latter confided in an interview that he would love to shoot an episode of the saga, on the condition of having total creative freedom. However, he is not included in the short list recently unveiled by our colleagues at Puck.news, which includes Edward Berger, Denis Villeneuve, Edgar Wright, Jonathan Nolan, and Paul King, among others.
A short list of very different directors
Jonathan Nolan is Christopher's brother, with whom he has often worked: they co-wrote Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar. He also created the series Person of Interest, Westworld, and Fallout. German director Edward Berger is the director of last year's Conclave and the Netflix war film All Quiet on the Western Front. Denis Villeneuve, who needs no introduction, is the acclaimed father of the Dune saga and Blade Runner 2049. From Scott Pilgrim to Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright is well known to Hitek readers. As for Paul King, he directed the Paddington franchise and Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. It seems that Amazon, despite this diversity of style, is still unsure which path to take with the next James Bond.
