Since the success of the first installment in 2019, Knives Out has established itself as a must-see among fans of whodunit, mixing humor, suspense, and social satire. After Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story aired in 2022, the saga has settled permanently on Netflix. It makes sense, then, that a third installment is in the pipeline.
Filming on the third film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Story wrapped in the summer of 2024, after a long development period slowed by the writers' strike. Rian Johnson has long shrouded the mystery surrounding this new plot, while confirming that it would be the most dangerous case ever entrusted to Detective Benoît Blanc.
A Murder and a Lot of Mystery
The trailer unveiled during the traditional Netflix TUDUM, which took place this weekend in Los Angeles, confirms the dark and mysterious atmosphere of the film. We discover Benoît Blanc, more determined than ever, immersed in an investigation that seems to defy logic. After paying homage to Agatha Christie, this third installment plays on the toes of Scooby-doo, in an investigation bordering on the paranormal. Unless it's an opportunity for the director to deliver his The Pumpkin Patch
It will apparently involve investigating the death, then the rebirth of a victim about whom we know nothing at the moment. “It’s been made up as a miracle, but it’s a murder and I solve murders.” While the plot hasn’t been shared, the music and character names suggest that Benoît Blanc will be heading to Louisiana, a region of the United States known for its spirituality and spooky myths. We also know the cast of this adventure.
Josh O’Connor will play Reverend Jud Duplenticy, Glenn Close will play Martha Delacroix, Josh Jefferson Wicks will be played by Josh Brolin, while Mila Kunis will play the town’s Sheriff. Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Day McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church complete the cast.
Rebirth on December 12, 2025
While the end of the year had been mentioned for the return of the investigator played by Daniel Craig, the platform had not specified the release date. This is now a done deal since Whodunit fans have a date on December 12, 2025 on Netflix. It therefore invites its users to mark XII.XII.MMXXV on their calendars. Until then, we can expect to discover new images very soon, to glean here and there information on this Christ-like and enigmatic investigation.
