Cast off, One Piece is coming back soon to Netflix. The series, adapted from the globally successful manga, was at the heart of the Netflix TUDUM festivities, which took place this Sunday in Los Angeles. Just like in 2023, the series by Steven Maeda and Matt Owens used this event to share its news... and it's rather disappointing. After filming wrapped in February, the teams are working hard to bring new chapters of Luffy's quest to fruition. While the hero is still far from getting his hands on the famous One Piece, the Straw Hat crew has some nice surprises in store.
Tony Tony Chopper is coming!
As expected, after adapting the East Blue arc, the series is tackling the Alabasta saga. This means that new enemies will appear, but also and above all, new friends. Netflix had promised that Chopper would make his entrance, and the arrival of the adorable character is confirmed. On the Grand Line, the crew will acquire new members and advance a little closer to its goal.
The sequence, entirely in visual effects, shows how the company managed to bring to life the character who is a favorite of One Piece readers and viewers of its animated version. The result is stunning. It is thanks to motion capture that the magic happens. Mikaela Hoover lends her voice in the original language.
Much of the cast of new characters has already been revealed, with big names such asCharithra Chandran (Bridgerton) as Vivi Nefertari,David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer / Dune) as Mr. 3 from Baroque Works, or Rigo Sanchez (Outer Banks) as Monkey D. Dragon. Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, and Jacob Romero will return as Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp. A crew wouldn't be complete without its chef, and Taz Skylar will return to play Sanji.
When is it coming?
If viewers were hoping to see the series return in 2025, they'll have to be patient. Netflix has made official the announcement everyone was dreading: One Piece season 2 won't be hitting our screens until 2026. It must be said that the year has been rather busy for the platform, with the returns of Mercredi, Stranger Things and Squid Game.
