One year after the Watch 4, Huawei presents the Watch 5, a smartwatch that aims to make health checks fast, accurate, and easy. Thanks to a new sensor on the edge of the case, a simple press is all it takes to obtain several biometric tests in less than a minute. Of course, all the experience offered by previous generations is back. All at a premium price, since it starts at 450 euros. Presentations.
Almost a year ago to the day, Huawei presented the Watch 4, a premium smartwatch offering great features, particularly in terms of materials. The Pro version, in particular, was dressed in titanium, sapphire, and ceramic. It featured a beautiful 1.5-inch AMOLED LTPO screen. And it had the essentials in terms of health monitoring: electrocardiogram, heart rate monitor, oximeter, thermometer, etc. All of this was supported by very decent battery life. Of course, not everything was perfect in the Watch 4 Pro, but the experience was undeniably premium.

A year later, Huawei is back with the replacement for the Watch 4. It's simply called Huawei Watch 5. There's no "Pro" version this year, although the titanium and sapphire version is one of the options available (only with the larger case). All watches are entitled to all the features of this generation. This will reassure anyone who doesn't have the budget for this ultra-premium watch, which is still sold in its simplest version for 450 euros.
The Huawei Watch 5's new sensor makes health checks easier
Like many Huawei watches, the Watch 5 comes in four versions. Two with a 42 mm case and two with a 46 mm case. For each size, you have a more classic version, in 316L stainless steel, and a more premium version. The 42mm version has a 904L stainless steel case that you usually find in luxury watches. And the 46mm version benefits from a titanium case (like the Watch 4 Pro). The protective glass also changes, since synthetic sapphire is only available on the premium versions of each size.
While it is technically quite similar to the previous version, the Watch 5 offers a new feature called X-Tap. This is based on two elements. The first is hardware: between the digital crown and the main menu access button, you will find a new element. The latter allows you to activate several biometric sensors, including the oximeter, heart rate monitor, and ECG, in a single gesture. And Huawei promises that this method is more accurate than traditional sensors. The second element is software: by pressing the X-Tap sensor once, the watch performs a battery of biometric tests and displays a complete report in 60 seconds. The goal is obviously to simplify health checks.
The Watch 5's spec sheet is classic, but complete
Apart from this new feature, the Watch 5 largely shares the same spec sheet as the Watch 4. You'll find a 1.38 or 1.5 inch AMOLED screen depending on the size of the case, a 540 or 867 mAh lithium battery for a battery life that varies from 3 to 5 days in typical use, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and WiFi sensors, a thermometer, the usual environmental sensors, tracking for more than a hundred sports, dual-band GPS, eSIM and 5ATM certification for waterproofing. The watch runs on Harmony OS 4. It is compatible with iOS (version 13 or higher) and Android (version 9 or higher). It's available from today (May 15, 2025) in the Huawei store. And of course, there are launch offers planned if you're interested.
