Nintendo isn't done with Splatoon. Quite the opposite... The company has just unveiled a double announcement that is likely to please fans of the license: on the one hand, Splatoon Raiders, the very first spin-off of the series, planned for Nintendo Switch 2. On the other, a major update for Splatoon 3, which arrives on June 12. Enough to revive interest in the colorful and crazy universe of the Inklings.
A new and surprising spin-off on Nintendo Switch 2
It's a first for the franchise and a great new feature for the console. Splatoon Raiders moves away from traditional arena matches to offer a true solo adventure, centered on exploration and action. In this new installment, coming to Nintendo Switch 2, you play as a mechanic sent on a mission to the Spirhalite Islands, a mysterious archipelago never before seen in the series. And good news: you won't be alone. The Deep Cut trio, well-known to Splatoon 3 players, will be there.
Even though Nintendo hasn't yet given a release date, the game is officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2. The first images suggest a calmer, almost contemplative atmosphere, while retaining the unique visual identity of the franchise. A real shift for Splatoon, which could well attract a new audience.
A 10.0.0 update full of new features for Splatoon 3
At the same time, Nintendo announced the arrival of Splatoon 3 update 10.0.0, available for free on June 12 on Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The content is quite rich. To start, we discover the Splatlands Collection, a series of 30 new weapon kits. These are signed by the fictional brands Barazushi and Emberz, with variants of already known weapons, but associated with new secondary and special combos.
And that's not all. A much-loved old map makes a comeback in Nintendo Switch 2: Urchin Underpass, from the very first Splatoon on Wii U, returns to the stage rotation. With this update, Nintendo is also introducing a new indicator, Series Weapon Power. This system measures a player's effectiveness with each weapon, based on wins and losses. The goal is simple: to create more balanced matches and encourage players to try other playstyles without feeling disadvantaged. A small change that could make a big difference, especially for those who want to step outside their comfort zone without getting pulverized. In short, another game to rediscover on Nintendo Switch 2.
