After years of waiting for some, Photoshop software is now available on Android. It's completely free, so there's no reason not to give it a go.
When you see an image that has clearly been edited using some software, do you say it's been retouched or "photoshopped"? Adobe's famous program is so popular that it has long since become a common verb, just like "to google." By regularly updating it, in line with the technological advances of the time, the company has managed to maintain its leading position despite the emergence of serious competitors. Paid or free, for that matter.
But there was still one downside: the absence of Photoshop on smartphones. We're getting Photoshop Express, a stripped-down version, but not all the tools offered by its full version. We had to wait until early 2025 for a proper Photoshop app to arrive, only on iOS. Android phone owners have to settle for a vague "soon," and their patience is finally rewarded.
Here's how to enjoy Photoshop for free on your Android smartphone
To install Photoshop on Android, simply click the button at the end of this article from your mobile and then start the download. Please note, the app weighs 585 MB. If your 4G/5G connection isn't optimal, or if you prefer to save your monthly data, consider enabling Wi-Fi. Unlike Photoshop Express, you'll eventually find all the options of the full version of the software, obviously redesigned for use on a small touchscreen.
It will be possible to import files, including .psd files, resume work started on a computer via the Adobe cloud, retrieve an image from Adobe Stock, or use Firefly's generative AI. Note that this is a beta version, and some free features already available or to come may become chargeable later. Adobe clearly states: "For a limited time, get free early access to pro-level tools." It is not yet known what the asking price will be.
