Pirates of the Caribbean 6: These 5 Myths and Treasures Would Be Perfect for the Sequel

Disney greenlit a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film a few years ago, with no word on whether it would be a sequel or a spin-off. At one time, studios even worked on multiple projects at once, before focusing on a sequel and abandoning other options. After the Aztec of Cortés' cursed treasure, Davy Jones, the Kraken, Calypso, the Fountain of Youth, and Poseidon's Trident, what other myths and treasures could haunt our heroes? #1 Atlantis

Atlantis has already appeared in numerous films, books, comics, and series, but we never tire of it. This mythical island, first described by the Greek philosopher Plato around 355 BC, is believed to have existed 9,000 years before him. This maritime empire, with an organized society and advanced technologies, was as large as a continent and boasted palaces, canals, and temples. It disappeared, struck by the wrath of Zeus, who unleashed the Flood against its inhabitants "swollen with unjust greed and power." Some believe it is located in the Mediterranean, near Santorini.

#2 The Leviathan

Since the Kraken was killed by the East India Company in At World's End, we could easily see it being replaced by this mythical monster. At once dragon, crocodile, and serpent, this colossal beast embodies Evil, even the end of time. He appears several times in the Bible, and in the Middle Ages, he was often depicted in the form of a whale, whose mouth was a door leading directly to Hell.

#3 Captain Kidd's Treasure

After Barbossa, the mysterious Davy Jones, Blackbeard, and Salazar, which other captain could be mentioned in the saga? Captain Kidd was a Scottish privateer hired by the British Crown to lead an expedition in the Indian Ocean, during which he attacked several ships. According to legend, he buried a huge treasure somewhere, possibly between the East Coast of America and India. Gold prospectors searched the shores for centuries, without ever finding it. In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first mortal woman on Earth, sent by Zeus to mankind to take revenge on them after being tricked by Prometheus, the Titan who gave them fire. Indeed, the god made it a curious creature, who did not fail to open a forbidden jar containing all the evils of the planet: pain, sorrow, fatigue, illness, famine, misfortune... Capable of procreating as well as destroying, Pandora is the equivalent of Eve in the Bible.

#5 The City of El Dorado

Ha, the city of gold! Like Atlantis, it is a great classic of fiction. In the 16th century, the Spanish conquistadors heard about the golden man and became obsessed with this myth. An indigenous tribe told them that when a new tribal chief came to power, a ceremony at Lake Guatavita inaugurated his reign. The chief is covered in gold dust, and gold and precious jewels are thrown into the lake to appease the god hiding there. This lake was partially drained by Europeans eager for riches, who discovered only what its banks contained (gold coins). The "real treasure" was never found.
