While Season 5 of the series Stranger Things is set to arrive this fall on Netflix, the Duffer brothers' show still has a bright future ahead of it. An animated series project has been announced and has just been unveiled at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Here's what's planned.
The Stranger Things franchise is growing
Although season 5 of Stranger Things will be the last and will conclude the paranormal events taking place in Hawkins, the Duffer brothers' Netflix series isn't about to be forgotten. Indeed, the show that has established itself on the streaming platform and has become a cult classic has been turned into a play. In July 2022, we learned that Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of the series, along with Kate Trefey, writer of Stranger Things and Jack Thorne, creator of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, were preparing the adaptation of the Netflix show to bring it to Broadway.
The play, titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow, debuted in London in 2023 and then went to the United States last April. It takes place 24 years before the first episode of the series, in 1954, and focuses on the story of the antagonist of season 4, Henry Creel aka Vecna.
The animated series Stranger Things is revealed
In addition to this play, Stranger Things will also be available as an animated series produced by the Duffer brothers and developed by Eric Robles, to whom we owe children's programs like Fanboy & Chum Chum. At the Annecy Animation Festival, fans were able to discover the behind-the-scenes of the creation of this animated series entitled Stranger Things Tales From '85.

Netflix took the opportunity to announce that the original characters will return to Hawkins in the heart of the harsh winter of 1985 and will have to unravel a paranormal mystery and fight new monsters. Thus, the plot will take place between the events of seasons 2 and 3.
The animated series is announced according to the platform. For his part, Robles revealed that his inspiration was Ghostbusters, Transformers, ET, and Goosebumps to create a series that talks about friendship while telling "a story full of horror and mystery."
As for the animation style, the series Stranger Things Tales From '85 will be inspired by the visual style of Into the Spider-Verse and Arcane and will be illustrated by Meybis Ruiz Cruz.
For now, Stranger Things Tales From '85 doesn't have a release date yet, but is scheduled for next year. The release dates for the final season of Stranger Things are here.
