Bethesda hasn't been very talkative lately. Medieval fantasy fans are particularly eager for news of The Elder Scrolls 6, seven years after its announcement. As for science fiction fans, and space exploration fans in particular, they had to deal with a real cold shower last weekend. What they were hoping for ultimately didn't happen, and it's starting to get hard for Starfield players.
Landing is brutal for Starfield
Since its launch, Starfield has struggled to truly convince. At the same time, it has managed to please a patient and curious audience. And at the same time, its lack of content and structure have left many wanting. Although full of potential, it still seems to be missing that little something for the masterpiece it is to finally shine for all to see.
Fans, however, had high hopes that their favorite game would emerge from the shadows. Indeed, last weekend was the Summer Game Fest. One of the highlights of this period, rich in announcements from all sides, was obviously the Xbox Showcase on Sunday, June 8. It was the perfect opportunity for first-party studios to present their new releases. But there was complete silence around Starfield.
At the end of the Xbox Showcase, fans did not hide their disappointment. We can read here and there on social networks that the conference was the "perfect moment" for a speech, for example, but that "Bethesda seems to completely ignore it"1. Some are even worried about the game's long-term support, showing their feeling of abandonment2. Even the potential for a PS5 port seems to be fading for others in the face of this silence. 3.
It's indeed surprising to see how almost silent the space has become since the release of Starfield's major DLC. There have been updates, but what fans are waiting for is content. Especially since rumors of a new expansion have emerged over the past few months. Many were therefore expecting to hear about it last weekend. Or, failing that, PlayStation players were finally hoping to see the announcement of an upcoming arrival on PS5, following in the footsteps of other Xbox exclusives. Unfortunately, it seems we'll have to wait a little longer for anything new.
