Nearly ten years after its initial release and after numerous ports, the global success of Stardew Valley shows no signs of slowing down. Its creator, Eric Barone, or ConcernedApe to his friends, continues to regularly update it as needed. At the same time, he is working diligently on his highly anticipated successor, Haunted Chocolatier. In this regard, he recently made a statement that has generated a certain amount of excitement among the community.
The successor to Stardew Valley is definitely very ambitious
Many times imitated but rarely equaled, Stardew Valley has definitely made its mark on the world by blending a farm management game, an adventure game, and a life simulator. All of this originated from the hand of a single person, Eric Barone. Building on its enormous success, he announced in 2021 the development of a spiritual successor in more ways than one, called Haunted Chocolatier, although no release date seems to be on the horizon yet, except for a very wide window between this year and 2030.
In any case, we know that this new game will mark several radical changes compared to Stardew Valley. In an interview with PC Gamer last month, its creator indicated that his next creation would be "darker and mysterious with hints of the paranormal", without forgetting the life simulation aspect so dear to the talented developer. More recently, he also made a new statement about Haunted Chocolatier on his personal X.com account, which greatly inflamed fans.
His new post doesn't beat around the bush, simply stating that "the world of Haunted Chocolatier is bigger than Stardew Valley." However, that hasn't stopped his community from getting excited, with the post receiving 2.5 million views at the time of writing. This is a sign that Stardew Valley's successor is definitely highly anticipated. Unfortunately, we'll have to be patient to find out when it will be released. Given its creator's grand ambitions, it could take longer than expected.
