The AirTag 2 is almost ready, but will it be presented at WWDC, Apple's big conference?

The release of the successor to the AirTag, Apple's Bluetooth beacon, is imminent. Apple's next big event, WWDC, would be the perfect opportunity to present it. Is it feasible, though?

The AirTag 2 is almost ready, but will it be presented at WWDC, Apple's big conference?

Since their release in 2021, Apple's AirTags have regularly been the talk of the town. These small Bluetooth tags, originally designed to easily find keys or lost luggage, have found themselves at the center of some rather unpleasant news stories. Tracking people without their consent, danger to animals that can swallow the device... These are all situations that have prompted the brand to react, notably by allowing iPhones to detect unwanted AirTags and other similar devices.

Of course, this hasn't stopped Apple from working in parallel on the successor to the round tag. Little is known about it, except that it should be released around mid-2025. At the time of writing, it's June 9th, so right on time. Especially since at 7 p.m. tonight, Apple will hold its WWDC, the conference during which it will present iOS 26, among other things. The chance to see the AirTag 2?

Will we see the AirTag 2 at Apple's WWDC?

Let's say it right away, the answer won't please those who are waiting for it. No, the AirTag 2 should not be presented at Apple's WWDC on June 9, 2025. That's at least the opinion of journalist Mark Gurman, and he defends himself. Already, the brand with the bitten apple will probably not unveil any new devices at its conference, whatever they may be. None are ready, and they will be entitled to a dedicated event later in the year.

Furthermore, the 2nd generation of the tag is not something notable enough to justify giving it such a place. Apple has already presented “hardware” at WWDC, but no longer seems to be in this perspective. Nevertheless, the AirTag 2 is “almost ready according to Gurman. An announcement in the coming weeks is therefore not to be excluded. Remember that the AirTag 2 should notably have a better range than its predecessor, as well as increased protection against use for spying purposes.
