For now, the world's thinnest folding smartphone is called the Oppo Find N5. But come July 2nd, it's likely to be stolen from the crown by the Honor Magic V5, before perhaps having it taken from it by the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Why are we so sure that Honor should overtake Oppo in the race for thickness? Because the Chinese manufacturer itself has communicated this on its own Weibo account. As is now customary, the manufacturer spoiled its own July 2nd conference by revealing the smartphone's design as well as some information intended to heighten fans' anticipation. And indeed, the Honor Magic V5 will measure 8.8 mm when folded. Just enough to surpass its longtime rival, Oppo, whose folding smartphone measures 8.9 mm wet. This doesn't yet tell us exactly how thick it is when unfolded, but if we rely on Oppo, it should be around 4.1 to 4.2 mm thick, well below the 5.8 mm of the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Despite this extreme thinness, it should benefit from a large capacity battery (thanks to carbon silicon) up to 6100 mAh and a 66 W charge.
Where is the Honor Magic V4?
If you follow smartphone news closely, you have probably noticed a strange fact: we immediately go from the Honor Magic V3 to the Honor Magic V5. If you follow smartphone news even more closely, you won't be very surprised that a Chinese smartphone is playing leapfrog with the number 4.
Because yes, this is neither the first nor probably the last time that a manufacturer from the land of the setting sun goes directly from 3 to 5. In China, as elsewhere in Asia, the number 4 is the subject of a very important superstition due to its phonetic proximity to the word "death". A belief so deeply rooted that we have never had the right to a OnePlus 4, nor an Oppo Find X4, nor an Oppo Find N4 and therefore to an Honor Magic V4.
