The Nintendo Switch 2 hides an option that radically improves your gaming experience, here's how to activate it

Nintendo's Switch 2 hasn't revealed all its secrets yet. Users have discovered an option that changes everything when you play. Let's see what it does and how to activate it.

The Nintendo Switch 2 hides an option that radically improves your gaming experience, here's how to activate it

We said it during our review of the Nintendo Switch 2: the Japanese manufacturer's new console isn't just a more powerful Switch 1. At first glance, you might think it stops there, but then you discover all the little new features that make it a better-designed device than the previous one. This is especially noticeable at the software level, for example with this option that allows you to extend the battery life of your Switch 2.

Internet users have found another very useful feature, but it isn't enabled by default. However, it can significantly change the visual rendering of your games in a good way. If you feel like something is wrong with the graphics of some of your titles, this is the option to use. Here's how.

This Switch 2 setting makes “a huge difference” when you launch a game

The Nintendo Switch 2 can simulate HDR rendering even on games that weren't designed for it. Often, this results in a rather unpleasant visual result, with colors far from what they should be.

Fortunately, you can make the console only enable HDR when the game supports it. To do this, go to the Switch 2's Settings and then to Display in the left-hand menu. There, select HDR Output and choose Compatible Software.

Gameskiller01's comment clearly reflects the usefulness of enabling the option. At the time of writing, it has received 2,200 upvotes (the equivalent of likes on Reddit): “[This] made a huge difference for me. I was really disappointed with how washed out and desaturated the image looked – enabling this setting fixed everything.” Be careful though: if your TV has an option that forces HDR, you'll need to disable it. Otherwise, it will override the console and you won't see any change.
