The studio behind Arcane announces a new series

The Annecy Festival is an opportunity for animation studios to discuss their upcoming projects. For the second year in a row, Fortiche, acclaimed for its work on Arcane, is unveiling a new original production in development. Miss Saturne is a 2D animated miniseries aimed at young adults. This fiction, co-produced by Arte France and Les Storygraphes, explores adolescent emotions through a pop aesthetic rooted in the 1980s.

When we say miniseries, we really mean mini. It consists of ten ten-minute episodes and is adapted from the eponymous novel by Barbara Israël, Miss Saturne. The story follows the journey of Mercy and Tom, two 16-year-old runaways, leaving Nice aboard a night train. Their journey becomes an inner journey, marked by memories and a tragedy that disrupts their adolescence. As you can see, the series falls into the coming-of-age genre.

A coming-of-age story in the 80s

It can be translated into French as “coming-of-age story,” which refers to a category of stories centered on the transition from childhood or adolescence to adulthood. It depicts the psychological, emotional, and social development of a young character confronted with events that make them grow. Euphoria, Skins, and Big Mouth are just a few examples of the genre. In terms of the storyline, we're told:

The project is led by a renowned artistic team. The storyline is by Louise Silverio, while the production and graphic design are handled by Anne Raffin, who collaborated on Arcane. It will also be a musical series punctuated by a new wave mixtape. For this project, Fortiche also claims to deliver demanding, narrative, and visual animation aimed at a teen-adult audience.

Annelyse Vieilledent, co-producer, describes Miss Saturne as “a unique project that, while rooted in the 80s, captures the essence of adolescence with a musical and emotional intensity that spans generations.” Scheduled to enter production in 2026, the series is targeting broadcast in 2027.

Fortiche has its work cut out for it

Coming of Age is also the tone the studio has chosen for its first original animated film. Named Penelope of Sparta, it will tell the story of young Penelope, before she becomes Odysseus's wife, in a universe mixing teenage intrigue and Greek mythology. Neither production has a release date at the moment.

Fortiche also didn't take the opportunity to give any news about the League of Legends universe. Rumors have it that the Fortiche teams have stopped Arcane to focus on other animated works inspired by the world created by Riot Games.
