The Switch 2 is a nightmare to repair

The Switch 2 is not a model of repairability. Worse still, since 2017 and the first generation of the hybrid console, Nintendo has not changed anything on this issue, even though it has become a topic of public debate—and legislation in the United States and Europe. iFixit carried out its traditional teardown and could only note the lack of effort on the part of the manufacturer.

Zero effort from Nintendo

The Joy-Con sticks of the Switch 2 use the same technology as their predecessors. Result: drift, this condition that causes ghostly movements for characters on screen, is likely to come back to haunt players in a few months.

The battery, firmly glued to the chassis, is very difficult to remove and therefore, to replace. Numerous adhesives complicate access to the innards (some even hide screws). The storage, the cartridge reader and the charging ports are soldered. Nintendo has also increased the number of screws of different shapes: you will need to be well-equipped and meticulous when reassembling the console after the repair.

Ultimately, the Switch 2 receives a repairability rating of 3 out of 10, while the Switch 1 (which was already not a model in this area) has been downgraded to 4 out of 10. Nintendo is not helping its situation by not offering any official spare parts purchasing service or official repair guides. This risks causing serious problems in countries where laws impose these provisions on manufacturers.
