Several reports have reported a Switch 2 with a damaged screen even though it has just been purchased. A very unpleasant surprise when unboxing, and the culprit is known. It's unexpected.
Any video game enthusiast will tell you: unboxing your new console just brought home is a pleasure in itself, just like turning it on for the first time. Based on this premise, it's no wonder many people are sharing their Switch 2 unboxing online. And what's the worst thing that can happen when you take the device out of the box? Finding that it has a defect or, worse, irreparable damage.
This is what several players have experienced in recent days. On X (Twitter), posts are multiplying and each time, it's the same thing: their Switch 2 is new and yet the screen is marked by two holes that have no place there. The kind of unpleasant surprise we gladly do without. No need to launch a major investigation to find out the cause of this problem, it was identified immediately and we still find it hard to believe.
Gamers unbox their Switch 2 and find that its screen is broken, the reason is surprising
You can see it in the post below, one of many others on social networks. Employees of GameStop, an American game and video console retailer, staple the receipt on top of the Switch 2 box. The problem is that Nintendo chose to place the console very close to the front of the packaging, with a simple sheet of cardboard as protection. The staple has no problem piercing it and reaching the screen just below.
Those affected will have their console replaced free of charge, but only when there are stocks. That is to say, not before 3 months as far as GameStop is concerned. Hard blow. Not to mention the staples, several people believe that this packaging choice risks damaging the Switch 2. Even if it's just by stacking the boxes on top of each other during transport, for example. Putting pressure on the console's screen with a heavy object is indeed not a good idea. Nintendo has not responded to this matter at this time, and it is unknown if it will do so.
@gamestop stapled the receipt for me and my friends Switch 2s to the box.
