The Odyssey firm has just launched the “Research Preview” of an AI capable of generating video games from scratch – while letting you play them live. A feat achieved without any video game engine, simply by generating the scene frame by frame based on your movements.
Clearly, AI continues to advance at a dazzling speed – giving rise to concrete applications that would have been unthinkable just a few months ago. This is notably the example of Odyssey and its “video AI” that it has been offering for a few days in “Research Preview”. Concretely, this AI, similar to other generative video models, has absorbed millions of hours of gameplay from various games.
This makes it capable of inventing games from scratch and letting you play them immediately. Because what is very powerful is that the user does not wait for the model to create something for him after a few minutes of calculation. Here, the images arrive directly. In fact, this AI generates them every 40 ms. Each time with the logical continuation of the previous one based on your movements.
How to play Odyssey now
The whole thing leads to coherent worlds made from scratch with its characters and its soundtrack. A particularly demanding application in terms of graphic resources, as you can imagine. Which forces the company to offer only low-resolution examples for the moment. Without letting you enter the prompt for your own game for the moment.
If you want to try Odyssey, it's extremely simple – if the site, which is sometimes a bit overloaded, is available, that is. All you have to do is go to Odyssey.systems and follow the instructions. The company explains on its pages that the games currently generated live are not yet entirely representative of the final version that it hopes to launch at an unknown date.
Improvements will be made regularly, with no doubt, one day soon, a platform that will truly allow you to play titles that you have imagined, and that the AI builds for you second by second. A bit like a strange dream, for which you will have written the script,
