This Goku Transformation You'll Never See Again in Dragon Ball

Japan, the birthplace of Dragon Ball, enjoys an undeniable advantage and privilege: exclusive access to certain unreleased productions that often never cross the country's borders. These confidential works remain invisible to the majority of Western fans, except through a few fragments circulating here and there on social media or YouTube. It is precisely in one of these stories, which appeared in 2017 and then disappeared just as quickly, that hides a transformation as unprecedented as it is super-powerful of Goku, which you will probably never see again.

Welcome to Dragon Ball Land

It was in 2017, in the Universal Studios Japan amusement park, that an exclusive event entirely designed as a fan's dream appeared: Dragon Ball Z: The Real 4-D at Super Tenkaichi Budokai. It was neither an anime episode nor a classic film, but of an immersive 4-D film shown only in the Japanese theme park. In this attraction, the audience was plunged directly into the heart of the Martial Arts Tournament, alongside Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo and Krillin.

Designed to offer an experience that immersed spectators in the heart of the action, the story combined flight simulator-type effects, special effects, and ended with a direct interaction between the spectators and the film. Dragon Ball Z: The Real 4-D, which aired for only a few months starting in June 2017, never received an international release or an official online broadcast. As a result, only a few low-quality videos circulate on YouTube or social media, making its content virtually inaccessible.

In this short film, Goku and his allies once again face Broly (in his antagonistic version from the Dragon Ball Z films). But this time, he becomes a formidable threat, as he gains a divine transformation: God Broly (a form we discuss in detail here). Despite their transformation into Super Saiyan Blue, the heroes are swept away effortlessly. And it is at this moment when all seems lost that Goku and Shenron devise a plan as unprecedented as it is exceptional…

More powerful than Vegetto

Even if the debate among fans remains heated over which fusion is more powerful: Gogeta or Vegetto, an official answer exists. According to Weekly Shōnen Jump, the Japanese magazine that publishes Dragon Ball, Vegetto, the fusion born from the Potaras, is considered superior to that achieved by the fusion dance (Gogeta). Even in his base form, Vegetto surpasses Super Saiyan 3, and can even rival Super Saiyan 4. Several guides and official statements from the authors have confirmed this over the years (as we explained in detail here). But despite this theoretical superiority, Dragon Ball Z: The Real 4-D presents us with a new, even crazier fusion of Goku: God Fusion Goku.

Indeed, in this 4-D film, Shenron allows Goku to merge not with Vegeta, but with the spectators themselves, very real humans present in the room. This crazy idea gives birth to God Fusion Goku, a super-powerful entity combining Goku's power with the energy of hundreds of human beings. Here we touch on a hybrid concept between fusion and Genki Dama (or the "universal force" for the more nostalgic among you). From there, the film switches to a subjective view (P.O.V): the audience, having merged with Goku, discovers the fight through his eyes and is invited to perform an "ultimate Kamehameha", which literally pulverizes God Broly.

Obviously, such a transformation can only exist in a limited and interactive setting like a theme park. Since it involves humans from our reality, it is impossible to integrate it into the canon continuity of the anime or manga. This is why God Fusion Goku is doomed to remain a lucky fan's dream, visible only in this now almost impossible to find 4-D film.

The possible return of God Fusion Goku

However, as strange as it may seem, this concept is not entirely disconnected from Toriyama's universe. Indeed, the creator of Dragon Ball himself had imagined an exceptional fusion involving five characters: the Five-Way Fusion, which appeared in the video game Dragon Ball Fusions. It showed several warriors uniting into a single, super-powerful entity, a principle very similar to that of God Fusion Goku.

In fact, even if this incredible transformation will probably never return in its exact form, nothing prevents the possibility that one day, in a future series or video game, a fusion involving several Saiyans, or even a modernized variation of this idea, will resurface.
