Even if you don't use it, the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and 11 is working behind the scenes. Just open it and go to Library to see that several applications on your PC come from there.

Paint, Photos, Connected Mobile, Calculator... All these programs are installed and updated from the store. The Redmond company would like users to go beyond that, and that's why it's trying to make it more attractive.

In a blog post entirely dedicated to it, we learn about the upcoming changes to the Microsoft Store. No graphical overhaul on the horizon, but many changes, both visible and invisible, for an optimized experience. Let's take a closer look at what's coming in the coming weeks.

The Microsoft Store for Windows will be transformed with these new features

First, the Microsoft Store homepage will display personalized recommendations. This is what can be seen in the image that serves as an illustration for this article. The suggestions are based on “recent activity, trends in your area, and the latest offers.” It will be possible to disable them.

Next comes Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant. Its presence will come as no surprise, as the company has been trying to integrate it everywhere for years. When you're on an app's page, you can ask the AI questions to, for example, find out the program's strengths or compare it to another. The feature is reserved for US users.

Always when you look at the page of a particular program, the Microsoft Store will display a “Discover more” box in the bottom right corner. It will show you other similar apps that might interest you.

The store will also be better integrated into the overall system. In the screenshot below, you can see that performing a Windows search may result in a direct download of an app from the Store. Quite handy.

Similarly, right-clicking on a file and choosing “Open with” will suggest installing a suitable program if you don’t already have one. For now, only those enrolled in the Windows Insider program in the United States and China will see this option.

Finally, Microsoft has made several changes under the hood to make searching for an app in the store more relevant. The Store itself is also faster, twice as fast as it was six months ago, according to the tech giant. And if all this doesn't convince you of its usefulness, be patient: by the end of the year, it will be possible to uninstall the Microsoft Store in Europe.
