Live on YouTube and X, Marvel made a big announcement in front of its most dedicated fans. While all eyes are already on Avengers: Doomsday, the House of Ideas has just launched a cryptic live stream in which a silhouette drops off a filming chair. The entry confirms the return of Chris Hemsworth to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, without further details being given. In front of some 30,000 viewers live on YouTube and 500,000 on X, is the House of Ideas officially announcing the cast of its next Avengers film?
As a reminder, the last time the character appeared was in the fourth installment of his adventures with Taïka Waititi. Love and Thunder showed him taking on the role of surrogate father to the daughter of Gorr the Butcher. The film's endnote promised the character's return, without specifying under what circumstances. We can imagine that he will come to lend a hand to the other Avengers as they prepare to face Doctor Doom. As a reminder, Robert Downey Jr. will be lending his features. The announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con last July.
The list is growing
The broadcast is still ongoing and new names are being added to the list. We now know that Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm) will also be on the trip. Not surprising, as her character is closely linked to Victor Von Doom in the comics. She shouldn't be the only one; we can imagine that Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards and his friends Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn are not far behind.
Unsurprisingly, Anthony Mackie should lead everyone to victory against one of the most iconic antagonists in the glossy Marvel mythology. This is already what Brave New World and its post-credits scene were already hinting at. Leader had warned the new Captain America that a war is brewing and it will be unlike anything our superheroes have ever experienced. The presence of Alan Silvestri's music, the legendary Avengers theme, leaves little room for doubt regarding the scope of this live event. This is indeed confirming the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release in theaters in May 2026.
No major surprises so far
The wait is particularly long, but new names seem to be added to the list every ten minutes. Now it's Sebastian Stan's turn to join the team. This is hardly surprising when we know that he will soon be leading the Thunderbolts* and that Captain America: Brave New World has confirmed his desire to enter politics. With the music of Black Panther, composed by Ludwig Göransson, Letitia Wright's participation has just been made official. What we know about Avengers: Doomsday Announced with great fanfare in July 2024, Avengers: Doomsday is the first part of a two-part series that will see the Avengers face Doctor Doom (in the original version) played by RDJ. The multiverse will obviously be at the epicenter of the film, while Marvel has been laying the foundations for this battle since Endgame and its time travel. As a reminder, the House of Ideas had to revise its plans when Jonathan Majors was found guilty of violence against a former girlfriend and sentenced to a year of domestic violence education.
The project, initially entrusted to Daniel Destin Cretton, then passed into the hands of the Russo brothers, who worked on Infinity War and Endgame. The screenplay was written by Stephen McFeely. Joe and Anthony Russo's recurring collaborator had already written the story for the two previous films, focusing on Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow, to name a few.
