What if PlayStation was already preparing a new DualSense controller, for PS5 or even PS6? According to a patent found by the media Tech4Gamers, Sony has filed a patent for a controller with multiple solar sensors placed on the top of the case, around the analog sticks and buttons.
PlayStation: solar-powered controllers? Or a simple prototype?
Patents of this kind are not rare in the video game industry and especially in tech. Very often, companies test things and file patents, just in case, to avoid having their concept stolen. We therefore do not know if PlayStation is actually preparing a solar-powered controller for its PS5, or even for the next PS6, the first rumors of which suggest a release for the 2027 holiday season.
In this patent, spotted According to the media Tech4Gamers, we see a DualSense PS5 equipped with several solar sensors placed on the upper part of the case, around the analog sticks and buttons. According to the patent, the energy would be stored in a dedicated area and would allow the controller to be recharged using solar energy. With this, Sony hopes to find a solution and offer an alternative to traditional rechargeable batteries. With this system, players would be able to recharge their controller via an external source without relying solely on a plug or cable.
Once again, there is no evidence that Sony will integrate this concept into the next PS5 or PS6 controllers. So, watch this space!
