The Google Pixel 9a is revealed through promising benchmarks

The Google Pixel 9a is revealed through promising benchmarks

Rumors about the imminent launch of the Google Pixel 9a are becoming increasingly persistent. While some are suggesting a presentation as early as next week, new information is fueling speculation surrounding this highly anticipated mid-range smartphone. Benchmark results, supposedly from the Pixel 9a, have recently surfaced online.

This data, shared by leaker @KaroulSahil, is believed to come from a device in the testing phase. The scores obtained are intriguing and raise several questions about the Pixel 9a's positioning compared to its competitors and the Pixel 9 range.

Mixed performance?

The analysis of the benchmarks reveals contrasting results:

  • AnTuTu: The Pixel 9a would have obtained a score of 1,049,844 points, which would place it at the same level as the high-end Pixel 9.
  • Geekbench: The results are more mixed, with 1,530 points in single-core and 3,344 points in multi-core, scores lower than those of the regular Pixel 9.

The similarity of the AnTuTu scores with those of the Pixel 9 is not surprising, since the Pixel 9a is expected to feature the same Tensor G4 processor. However, the gap observed on Geekbench is intriguing.

Several explanations have been put forward to justify these differences. Among them, unoptimized software. The device tested could be running a preliminary version of Android, which would explain the lower performance on certain tests. Additionally, Google could intentionally limit the Pixel 9a's performance to distinguish it from high-end models, or use a less powerful chip, as it did with previous Pixel (a) models.

Despite these mixed results, the Pixel 9a appears to outperform some direct competitors like Samsung's Galaxy A56. The latter reportedly scored lower on AnTuTu (908,689 points) and Geekbench (1,364 in single-core and 3,899 in multi-core).

The launch price will be crucial to the Pixel 9a's success. If rumors are confirmed, the 128GB model should be offered at the same price as its predecessor, i.e. 549 euros. The 256 GB version could see a slight increase.
