All smartphone brands have their folding smartphone. All of them? No, because a village of diehard apple-logoed phones still resist the sirens of novelty. Apple still doesn't have its iFold or iFlip.
For many months, even years, rumors have been piling up on the subject and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has delivered detailed information on a future folding smartphone branded Apple.
An idea of the format and a price
He suggests first of all that it would adopt the book format of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and not the clamshell format of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. He suggests that the external screen would measure a very small 5.5 inches, which suggests that Apple would move towards a rather square format, a bit like the Oppo Find N. As for the folding screen inside, it would display a diagonal of 7.8 inches, without any fold marks thanks to a hinge combining titanium and stainless steel. The frame, itself, would display titanium.
Another new information from the analyst, the price would exceed 2000 dollars and could go up to 2500 dollars. This would place it slightly above the current book-format smartphones that start at just under $2,000.
On the other hand, from its first generation, Apple would be able to compete with the champions of thinness, since the brand with the apple would offer a device measuring between 9 and 9.5 mm folded and between 4.5 and 4.8 mm unfolded. The current Oppo Find N5, the champion of the sector, displays 4.21 mm.
To achieve such a result, this folding iPhone would necessarily use a high energy density battery. It would be based on the same technology as that used on the iPhone 17.
In addition, for technical constraints, Face ID could not be integrated and Apple would be obliged to reintegrate Touch ID, after having removed it from its ranges by introducing the iPhone 16e.
The photo block would be composed of only two photo modules. Compared to Android folding smartphones, it would probably abandon the telephoto lens to settle for the wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle.
Release date in 2026 confirmed
The analyst also confirms that Apple plans to launch its folding iPhone as early as 2026. The brand would like to sell between 3 and 5 million units. The second generation would come as early as 2027, with a sales target of around 20 million units.
