Cyberpunk 2077: Catastrophe in sight Conversing Switch 2 optimization?

Cyberpunk 2077: Catastrophe in sight Conversing Switch 2 optimization?

A few days ago, Nintendo unveiled its upcoming Nintendo Switch2 console. While the presentation was quite interesting, the bottom line is that we still don't know anything about the console's specs (CPU, GPU, 4K Native or Upscale, 120FPS in portable mode, DLSS usage, etc.). Despite everything, Nintendo is offering us a pretty steep price with a console at 469.99 euros and games that could cost up to 89.99 euros.

Unfortunately, we learn that in addition to this, some games could offer fairly critical optimization conditions, like the highly anticipated CyberPunk 2077.

CyberPunk2077 in 540p?

Digital Foundry specialists have analyzed most of the trailers that have been broadcast during the Nintendo Direct allowing us to discover the first games for the Switch2.

Of course, experts who have a solid reputation for offering relevant and often accurate analyses specify that these initial findings are based on the game trailers during the Nintendo Direct and that they are not analyses directly carried out on the games, on the console. These are therefore first impressions that must be taken with hindsight. This allows us to give an initial idea.

We thus learn that for the moment, no flagship game would be offered in 4K, nor in 120FPS:

  • Mario Kart World: 1440p – 60FPS
  • Donkey Kong Bananza: 1080p – 60FPS
  • The Duskbloods: 1080p – 30FPS

For the moment, out of the 58 games announced, only Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would offer a game mode in 4K and a game mode in 1080p and 120FPS. But, as for Metroid, it will be the Switch version, optimized for Switch2, and not a Switch2 game.

On the of CyberPunk2077, one of the main announcements, the report is quite worrying. Apparently, the trailer shows an unstable version of the game running at 1080p and 30FPS unstable with drops to 540p and 23FPS. Knowing that basically, trailers are always more optimized than the games themselves. This does not bode well.

Also according to Digital Foundry, there would be no trace of DLSS in the 58 Switch2 games presented this week. Worse still, it seems that Nintendo has opted for FSR1 (while FSR4 is available).

Following these initial statements, Nintendo confirmed that DLSS would indeed be present on Switch2 games. However, the Japanese manufacturer remained very vague and did not want to go into detail to specify the conditions of use and integration of DLSS. Similarly, Nintendo dodged GPU-related questions, stating that they preferred not to discuss these topics for the time being.

Generally, it's never a good thing when a manufacturer remains vague and wants to avoid certain topics. To be continued.
