On April 2nd, during the special Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch 2, we learned that the famous CyberPunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red would be entitled to a reissue, on the new Nintendo console, as soon as the latter launches on June 5th. Unfortunately, the first feedback concerning the adaptation and especially, the stability were not reassuring.
However, CD Projekt seems confident and assures that the game is still in development and that it will be greatly improved by its release in a little less than two months. Today, the Polish studio confirmed that CyberPunk 2077 will benefit from DLSS, officially making it the first Switch2 game to receive it.
CyberPunk 2077: complicated port, despite DLSS?
A few hours after the official announcement of CyberPunk 2077, CD Projekt Red announced a game in 1080p and 30FPS for the console's docked mode. But, Digital Foundry's initial findings, based on the game's first trailer, did not seem as enthusiastic, confirming drops in quality with a game that fell to 24FPS and 540p.
Faced with these initial analyses, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the game was still in development and that it would be entitled to a lot of modifications and improvements between now and its release on June 5.
Today, the studio confirmed that the port of CyberPunk2077 would benefit from DLSS. It was during an interview with Digital Foundry that CD Projekt confirmed: "We are using a version of DLSS that is compatible with the Nintendo Switch2 hardware, leveraging Nvidia's Tensor Cores. The game uses DLSS in all four modes: handheld and docked, with performance and quality variants for each.".
DLSS is important for game optimization, allowing for a lower resolution, but taking advantage of the upscaling system for the final image. CD Projekt confirmed that the goal was to offer two game modes for CyberPunk in the docked version with a quality mode, allowing you to play at 30 FPS and a performance mode that aims for 40 FPS. However, this 40 FPS mode would only be compatible with 120 Hz TVs.
Regarding the resolution, CD Projekt Red is aiming for native 1080p on the docked version. In portable mode, the performance mode would allow you to play in upscaled 1080p via DLSS and in 30 FPS for the quality mode. and 720p with a 120 Hz display, and 40 FPS for the performance mode in the portable version.
This seems very complicated, knowing that to date, Nintendo remains very evasive about the performance of its console. Whether it is DLSS, VRR, the CPU, the GPU or even the native 4K resolutions (or not), the manufacturer has still not wanted to go into details, only a month and a half before the console's release.
