Google is multiplying projects to integrate artificial intelligence into our daily lives. After introducing Gemini into its mobile apps, the company is now tackling the field of connected glasses. These devices promise to combine augmented reality and embedded intelligence, all in a format as discreet as traditional glasses.

At the TED conference in Vancouver, a Google executive unveiled for the first time a prototype of Android XR glasses. Visually very sober, they integrate a camera, a microphone, a speaker and a miniature screen directly integrated into the glasses. The latter are designed to work with a smartphone connected in real time, which processes all the data. The objective is to keep a very light object to wear, while retaining advanced features.

The demonstrations highlighted several functions already operational. The glasses can live translate a conversation, identify the contents of a book, or even remember objects recently seen thanks to a visual memory driven by the Gemini AI. The wearer can also consult projected notes in their field of vision, use apps like Google Maps or YouTube Music, or even launch a search using Circle to Search. All the calculations are performed by the connected phone, which considerably lightens the device.

Google has not confirmed It remains unclear whether these glasses will ever be released under its own brand. But the project is well underway, with several models already being tested, including prescription glasses and sunglasses. The integration of corrective lenses is also planned. At the same time, Samsung is preparing its own XR glasses under Android, called "Haean". They should arrive on the market more quickly and aim for comfort, compatibility with the American OS and similar functions. The first versions could be unveiled as early as this year, alongside the Project Moohan headset.
