Motorola announces the Razr 60 / 60 Ultra, its new foldable smartphone with integrated AI

Motorola announces the Razr 60 / 60 Ultra, its new foldable smartphone with integrated AI

As expected, Motorola took advantage of a conference held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, to unveil a range of new products. In addition to the Motorola Edge 60 and 60 Pro, its first smartwatch, and a pair of headphones, the brand unveiled a new generation of foldable smartphones: the Razr 60. Motorola is releasing the flip phone in two versions, a standard edition and an Ultra edition.

Both foldables broadly follow the design of the Razr range and previous models. The devices are built around a screen that folds vertically. On the back, there is a second, much smaller screen next to the camera. From a visual point of view, the recipe remains the same.

New titanium hinge and Gorilla Glass Ceramic

On both Razr 60s, we find an aerospace-grade titanium hinge. Until now, the company used stainless steel to manufacture the hinge that allows the panel to bend. More and more high-end smartphones are switching from steel to titanium. This is also the case with iPhones. Titanium is stronger than steel, much lighter, and corrosion-resistant.

Motorola says the hinge is four times stronger than the steel hinge on previous models. It can withstand 35% of folding and unfolding cycles. Furthermore, the operation is smoother. The Razr 60 inherits the same central hinge, which can bend more than 800,000 times.

The company has also worked on the robustness of the rest of the Razr 60 Ultra. The smartphone is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic protection. It's the first flip phone to benefit from the new protection, which promises to protect mobiles against ten consecutive drops.

The phone inherits a 7-inch screen with a high refresh rate of 165 Hz, surrounded by 20% thinner borders than the precise edition. On the back, there is a 4-inch 165 Hz panel.

The standard model has a smaller internal screen, namely 6.9 inches with a frequency of 120 Hz. The external screen measures 3.6 inches and offers a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The screens are Pantone certified. The world standard in color management ensures that what you see on screen is true to life.

Moto AI 2.0

On the back screen, Motorola has integrated a suite of AI technologies called Moto AI. For example, we find the good old AI assistant, but also the possibility of having contextual actions suggested to us, all with simple presses on the side button.

Other new features are included, such as the possibility of creating playlists adapted to what you are reading or cooking, generating visuals from queries or sketches, optimizing group photos so that everyone looks at the lens, editing images according to your preferences, summarizing notifications clearly, taking notes during meetings and memorizing important information with their context for easy retrieval.

When the phone is in tent or easel mode, even if it is locked, Moto AI can be summoned just bylooking at the screen and speaking. No need to touch the device: direct voice control lets you ask a question, launch an app, or perform a task instantly. The assistant "wakes up, responds to voice, reads notifications, summarizes conversations, and transcribes conversations," Motorola explains. This feature is limited to the Ultra version.

Camera, battery and SoC

The Razr 60 Ultra's camera unit integrates a dual 50-megapixel module, with a wide-angle module and an ultra-wide-angle module that handles macros. On the internal screen, there is a 50-megapixel sensor for selfies. Less sophisticated, the Razr 60's camera block consists of two sensors, namely a 50 Mpx main sensor, supported by an ultra-wide-angle and 13 megapixels, with optical stabilization and ultra-fast focusing. A 32 megapixel front camera is present on the internal panel. The cameras are also Pantone certified.

The 60 Ultra's performance is powered by Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, coupled with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The standard 60 has to make do with the MediaTek Dimensity 7400X processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Finally, the Razr 60 Ultra's battery life is handled by a 4700mAh battery, offering more than a day of endurance, compatible with 68W fast charging, wireless charging and reverse charging. On the 60, Motorola opts for a 4500 mAh battery with 30W charging and wireless charging.
