Sony has just confirmed a new price increase for its PS Plus service. Starting April 16, 2025, players in several countries will have to pay more to access the three subscription plans offered: Essential, Extra, and Deluxe. Why, and who is affected? In short, news that is less amusing than the PS Plus of April 2025.
An increase justified by economic conditions for PS Plus
As is often the case in this type of situation, Sony explains this increase by "global market conditions." In short, the company believes it needs to review its PS Plus prices to continue offering quality games. and enhance the benefits included in its subscriptions. A classic pitch, but one that risks raising eyebrows, especially in regions where players' purchasing power is often more limited than in Europe or North America.
This price increase does not affect the entire world. It is currently limited to 15 Latin American countries. The following countries are affected: Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, Costa Rica, as well as countries like Guatemala, Nicaragua and Ecuador. The new prices will be applied automatically as of the next payment deadline for current subscribers. New users will have to pay these new prices directly from April 16.
Subscriptions that cost more and more
In detail, this increase is far from symbolic. The Essential subscription increases to $64.99 for one year. The Extra plan climbs to $107.99, and the Deluxe offer now reaches $124.99 for twelve months. This represents an increase of between $10 and $18 per year depending on the subscription chosen. A significant sum for many players. Especially in these countries.
It's worth remembering that the Deluxe offer, available in these countries, is a stripped-down version of the Premium subscription available elsewhere. It doesn't allow you to stream PS3 games. It's therefore a slightly less advantageous formula, which risks being even less well received with this price increase for PS Plus.
This announcement comes in an already complicated context for subscription services. The PS Plus catalog continues to expand, with the upcoming arrival of Hogwarts Legacy, for example, but prices are increasing everywhere, whether at Sony, Microsoft, or other market players.
