While the company had declared that it no longer wanted to produce sequels to its franchises, this installment will be closely scrutinized by fans. Tim Allen, the original actor who played Buzz Lightyear, has just shared some information about the plot of this episode.
Toy Story 5, a surprise sequel eagerly awaited by fans
In February 2023, to everyone's surprise, when Pixar studio had decided to no longer offer sequels to its animated films, Toy Story 5 was announced to be released seven years after the previous installment. Opus that wasn't necessarily unanimous among fans. This is why the public will be uncompromising about this new adventure of Andy's toys. At D23 in August 2023, Disney shared the first image of the animated film with us. According to this visual, Toy Story 5 should focus on the issue of screens among pre-teens and teenagers. We see Bonnie under her duvet with a tablet facing the dismay of the famous toys.
As a reminder, the end of Toy Story 4 featured Woody leaving Buzz and company to go off with Bo Peep. As a result, it's hard to imagine how to propose a sequel. However, it seems that Disney and Pixar have found the solution to reunite these two characters. This is what Tim Allen, who lends his voice to the space ranger, has just revealed.
Woody and Buzz are reuniting but will not be the heroes of Toy Story 5
In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he would be reuniting with his co-star Tom Hanks, who has voiced the cowboy since the first cartoon released in 1995, and he teased a film opening that will appeal to long-time fans:
Tom and I, Woody and I, we meet again. And there's an incredible opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can assure you, but I can't tell you more.
For now, we don't know the details of the plot of this Toy Story 5. But last December, Tim Allen said that the film will feature "a very, very smart story," adding that "it's a very good story." Now, the actor has provided another piece of information about the plot, and it's surprising. It seems that Pixar has chosen not to make Buzz and Woody the main characters:

Directed Directed by Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo), Toy Story 5 is expected in French theaters on June 17, 2026. The first images will also be presented at the Annecy Animation Festival, which will be held from June 8 to 14.
