Regardless of the medium, the Alien franchise seems to have no trouble crossing eras. Last year, for example, the film Alien: Romulus was a great success in theaters, so a new sequel is currently in the works. And the same goes for video games, where numerous projects regularly emerge, even if, let's not lie, not all of them are necessarily worth the detour. But it nevertheless seems to be working since recently, not one, but two new games were announced.
Alien: Rogue Incursion is getting out of VR
The first, Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition, has just been announced by Survios. So yes, in this case, it's not really a new title. But it certainly will be for a large majority of players, since it has until now been an exclusively VR experience. "Following our excellent start on [virtual reality] platforms, we are delighted to offer the Evolved Edition on PS5 and PC later this year, so that Alien fans can experience Zula's journey wherever they prefer to play," the studio says.
Expected for September 30, this new version will include a series of improvements for the occasion, with reworked graphics and a resolution of 60 frames per second. However, no additional content seems to be on the agenda immediately, nor does an Xbox version. However, this will be a very good entry point for players while waiting for the continuation of this two-part story, which is already in development.
As a reminder, Alien: Rogue Incursion features the character of Zula Hendricks, a former colonial marine on a mission to the mysterious unexplored planet of Purdan. Determined to expose Weyland-Yutani's illegal experiments, she infiltrates the Gemini Exoplanet Solutions research center, where she finds herself confronted with Xenomorph attacks.
Xenomorph, a new open-world game
The second, meanwhile, is a game whose announcement seems to have gone somewhat under the radar a few weeks ago. Developed by Athena Worlds, a British studio, it is titled Xenomorph and is intended to be a spiritual successor to the title Alien vs. Predator released on the Atari Jaguar in 1994. A game that marked the career of Jane Whittaker, founder of the studio. "It's a very personal journey for me," he confided. "I've been asked for over 30 years to create my next survival and stealth strategy game. I'm delighted to say that, thanks to generous support, my day has come."
For now, however, very little information has been revealed about it. All that is known is that it will be an open-world game combining exploration, survival, tension, and combat, and that the story will take place on the planet XL-243. We'll have to be patient while we wait to find out more about this upcoming title, which has been announced for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC without any release window.
