The three new episodes of Andor have just been released on Disney+. The season of the popular Star Wars series continues its run on the platform. Like last week, we decided to revisit the best easter eggs from episodes 4, 5, and 6.
11) Ghorman Culture
Episode 4 focuses on the Ghorman culture. The Ghorman are a humanoid species that lives on a planet of the same name. Little known to the general public, they nevertheless played a role during the Rebellion. They were notably victims of the Ghorman massacre. A terrible event that took place about twenty years before the events of A New Hope. At that time, the Empire imposed a blockade on Ghorman. Moff Tarkin ordered a veritable massacre of his troops, which pushed Mon Mothma, then a senator, to officially break with the Empire. In Andor Episode 4, a group of Ghorman is introduced. This gave the Star Wars series the opportunity to invent a language and an alphabet specifically for these new characters. According to Tony Gilroy, these Ghormans are also inspired by the French revolutionaries during World War II.
10) Podracer
Two Imperial officers watch a podracer race on their screen. The famous pod races featured in The Phantom Menace are still relevant today in the era of Andor.
9) Imperial News
When Syril's mother begins to share anti-Ghorman sentiments, he chastises her for watching too much Imperial News. Later, the Imperial News channel "Good Morning, Coruscant" is shown. During this same conversation, Syril's mother also mentions Emperor Palpatine.
8) Iconic soundtracks
Several soundtracks that appear in Andor are hidden references to other Star Wars productions. Indeed, certain sounds on Coruscant, such as the noises of Speeders, are references to The Phantom Menace. The elevator used by Lonni Jung makes the same noise as the one used by Anakin and Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith. Finally, the damaged engine of the Ghorman transport resembles the faulty hyper-conductor of the Millennium Falcon.
7) Saw Gerrera
The famous rebel played by Forest Whitaker is back in this season 2 of Andor. We learn that Saw Gerrera has taken up residence on the planet D'Qar. A planet that would later become the base of operations for Leia Organa and her resistance in The Force Awakens.
6) Colonel Yularen
IBS Colonel Yularen is mentioned several times in season 2 of Andor, episodes 4-6. He previously appeared in season 1 of Andor and served with Anakin Skywalker in the 501st Legion during the Clone Wars.
5) Ashoka?
When Kleya speaks with Davo, they are talking next to an urn that features a small sculpture of a Torgruta (the same species as Ahsoka Tano).
4) The Senate Building
The Imperial Senate Building is shown more than once in Season 2 of Andor.
3) Sam Witwer
When Cassian Andor communicates with a mysterious interlocutor to obtain identity papers, we can hear the voice of actor Sam Witwer. The latter was the voice actor for Darth Maul in The Clone Wars. So is this a simple homage, a happy coincidence, or a direct reference to Darth Maul? Hard to say.
2) Roast Massiff
Saw Gerrera and his supporters eat a Roast Massiff. It's a kind of dog present on Tatooine and consumed by the Sand People.
1) Bail Organa
Senator Bail Organa makes a brief appearance, meeting Mon Mothma and Perrin. However, the character is not played by Jimmy Smits, the face of the character since the prequels, but by actor Benjamin Bratt. Indeed, Jimmy Smits was not available at the time to take over the role of Bail Organa due to a scheduling conflict.
