It can't be said enough: on the internet, as long as it's not official, you should always be wary of what you read. False information is hard to break, and it sometimes tends to spread like wildfire in the time it takes to say it. Call of Duty recently suffered this, as a rumor shared a few days ago on X caused a backlash among players. But rest assured: no, Activision does not plan to charge for limited-time game modes in the next installment!
Finally, no paid modes in Call of Duty
Yet this is indeed what TheGhostOfHope, a renowned insider in the world of Call of Duty, indicated just this weekend. According to its information, the publisher had indeed planned to increase the number of limited-time game modes, integrating them directly into the Battle Pass rather than offering them for free. In return, the latter would have been enhanced with more unique rewards, skins, and other higher-value content, intended to replace the usual premium events.
Fortunately, however, it seems that all of this is false. This is indeed what the much more reputable media outlet CharlieIntel claimed in a tweet published yesterday. "We have learned that the rumor that Call of Duty would implement limited-time modes as part of the Battle Pass was false," assures the media outlet. "This will not happen for Call of Duty 2025." More fear than harm, then, even if we hope that the last part of the message does not mean that this could still happen in the more or less near future.
A new opus on the way
In the meantime, players can rest assured about the next opus in the series, which has not yet been officially announced. But if we are to believe all the rumors shared in recent years, it should however be a sequel to Black Ops 2. And for the first time since Black Ops 4, it should then take place in a relatively close futuristic setting, the plot taking place around the years 2030-2035. But all of this remains to be confirmed, which should not be too long now if the game is released at the end of the year.
