While Dexter Morgan's victims have a very limited life expectancy once they cross his path, he doesn't seem to want to resign himself to dying. While New Blood sounded like a farewell to the character born in 2004 under the leadership of Jeff Lindsay, the opening of Origins showed that he had survived his injury. His son Harrison's shooting didn't get the better of him, and he returns to our screens this summer for Resurrection. A very apt name for the character's new adventures. But what's it about? Who's in the cast? Let's take stock.
Rising from the ashes
Resurrection follows in the footsteps of New Blood, which aired in 2021 on Showtime in the United States. As a reminder, ten years after faking his death in Miami, the serial killer had settled in the small town of Iron Lake in New York State. He had adopted the pseudonym Jim Lindsay, a barely disguised reference to the author who created him on paper. He worked in a hunting and fishing store and was romantically involved with the local police chief: Angela Bishop.
He thought he was living under the radar, but his son Harrison, whom he had with Rita Bennett, arrived in Iron Lake and Dexter seemed to be once again embarking on the path of bloody murders.
At the end of the ten episodes, the confrontation between Harrison and his father resulted in the apparent death of Dexter Morgan (again). The character admitted to having been a bad father and to being responsible for Rita's death. He invited his son to take the only possible path: murder. In Origins, Michael C. Hall appeared from the very beginning to confirm his character's return to life. He was saved in extremis by the hospital staff. For his part, Harrison was on the run after being helped by Angela.
Old Acquaintances
Resurrection will have the difficult task of continuing after what seemed like an end for the character. The synopsis confirms that the series is a season 2 of New Blood that doesn't say its name:
When is it coming?
After cultivating the mystery regarding the precise release date, Showtime delivered more information on the subject a few days ago. In a short teaser, the American channel confirms that the date is set for July 11th in the United States. We can expect French audiences to be able to watch the first episode as early as July 12th.Ten episodes are scheduled.
Who's in the cast?
Since you don't change a winning team, Michael C. Hall takes over the lead role. He had once handed the baton to Patrick Gibson, a trip down memory lane required. James Remar will reprise the role of Harry Morgan while David Zayas is back with Angel Batista. Jack Alcott will once again play Harrison, Dexter's son.
Moreover, Resurrection doesn't do things by halves, since the series calls on Peter Dinklage to play a certain Leon Prater and also Uma Thurman to lend her features to Charley. Behind the scenes, Clyde Phillips and Scott Reynolds are in charge of creation. Michael C. Hall is also in production.
Where to watch Dexter: Resurrection?
It won't have escaped the notice of series fans that Showtime is not available in our green lands. The good news is that Dexter: Resurrection will indeed be available in France... via Paramount+. While Canal+ has long had exclusive rights to the adventures of Dexter Morgan, they were also broadcast on TF1 since 2010. However, it is the American platform that will offer long-time fans the opportunity to rediscover their favorite series this summer.
Canal+ subscribers will still be able to enjoy it, provided they have access to Paramount+ in their package. As a reminder, the platform is no longer accessible to all customers of the automatically encrypted channel, as is still the case with Apple TV+.
