Fallout 3 Remaster and another big surprise are reportedly in the works, it looks promising

While Bethesda's focus is on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield, the highly anticipated Fallout 5 may not be released until 2030. However, all hope is not lost for fans of the post-apocalyptic franchise. To help tide fans over, it seems likely that Fallout 3 will sooner or later receive the same treatment as Oblivion Remastered. On top of that, we could also be in for another big surprise, according to a generally well-informed Xbox insider.

The Fallout 3 Remaster is indeed a reality, and that's not all!

Released a few weeks ago, Virtuos' remastered version of Oblivion on Unreal Engine 5 has clearly made a splash. So much so that many are now calling for a similar revisitation for the iconic Fallout 3. According to Colt Eastwood, an Xbox insider who has been very vocal about Bethesda productions lately, the studio also seems very enthusiastic about the idea. After Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake coming on August 27, 2025, it could be that Virtuos is working on a remaster of the third installment released in 2008, two years after The Elder Scrolls 4. Is that the number of years that will separate us from this overhaul under Unreal Engine 5? The mystery still remains.

But that wouldn't be the only good news for Fallout fans. In the video below, Colt Eastwood also indicates that a spin-off of the fourth installment is also in the pipeline from Obsidian. As a reminder, they are the ones behind the excellent New Vegas, itself a spin-off of Fallout 3. It could therefore be that, after The Outer Worlds 2, the studio behind Avowed returns to the post-apocalyptic universe to further delight fans.

Even though Colt Eastwood seems to be pretty well informed, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. Given the franchise's enormous popularity, particularly thanks to Prime Video's explosive Fallout series, with a second season having just recently completed production, it's hard to imagine Bethesda leaving fans in the lurch. However, we'll have to be patient while we wait for more official information about it.
