As FF7 Rebirth continues its successful run on PlayStation 5 and PC, the modding community continues to push the limits of the game. Two major new features have just appeared, and they should intrigue both long-time fans and the curious: two new playable characters, and a Sephiroth with much more extensive powers.
Two new playable faces in FF7 Rebirth
It was a discreet but recurring request among some FF7 Rebirth fans: to play with members of the Turks. This is now possible thanks to a new mod available on Nexus Mods, created by creator D3DNieR. Reno and Rude become playable, replacing Cloud and Tifa. While their integration isn't 100% perfect, the result is surprisingly solid.
The mod isn't just a simple skin; in fact each character has their own mechanics, including Rude, who gains new attack chains after using certain skills like Unbridled Strength. He can also cancel animations to chain attacks faster, or even perform counters. In short, it's more than just a cosmetic addition, they're almost complete characters in their own right.
Sephiroth boosted
Another notable addition to FF7 Rebirth, Sephiroth now benefits from a more complete arsenal, thanks to a mod developed by Eulymedon. In the base game, Sephiroth is briefly playable in a story sequence, but with rather limited gameplay. This new mod is a game changer. It's all available at this link.
It introduces skills directly inspired by his boss fight, such as Heartless Angel, Errant Whisper, and Wicked Augment. These abilities make him much more impressive to control, without completely unbalancing the game, provided they are used intelligently.
These two mods illustrate the community's state of mind around FF7 Rebirth. Despite the title's very cinematic and linear aspect, modders are finding ways to renew the experience and breathe new life into the adventure. For such a narrative game, it's a real feat.
