The Monsterverse isn't done delivering epic battles. After the success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in 2025, the Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. saga is preparing its return. On YouTube, the two entities share important information about the film, which we already knew was in development. It has just reached a new milestone before its arrival on our screens in 2027. Filming has begun, and everyone is actively working to ensure a release on March 26, 2027 in Uncle Sam's country, and probably a few days earlier in France. In addition to this calendar clarification, the saga finally shares the official title of this installment. The name Supernova was chosen, preceded by the now traditional Godzilla x Kong.
The announcement is accompanied by an illustrative shot of the premises of Monarch, the titan-controlling institution immortalized in the Apple TV+ series. Calls are pouring in, proof, if any were needed, that things are getting serious. The organization even invites viewers to contact an emergency number to report the presence of a titan. A chat is accessible via WhatsApp and allows viewers to stay informed of the project's progress. Specifically, the system promises to regularly deliver information on the titans invited to take part in what promises to be a dantesque clash. We can hope that the bestiary of this film will be shared via the number provided in the video's description. We can still make some assumptions.
Any initial clues?
While Warner Bros. is keeping the scope of the story a secret, the chosen title hints at the arrival of a kaiju that first appeared in 1994. The use of the title Supernova suggests that the story will involve Space Godzilla, a fictional monster created by Toho in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. It is a clone of the famous kaiju that has a similar appearance except for its dorsal spines, which are white crystals. Within the Expanded Universe, Space Godzilla is often portrayed as a relentless destructive force, the ultimate threat to humanity.
This cataclysmic event would obviously reunite the former enemies turned makeshift allies in the 2024 film. In the meantime, we can hope to see the brand again on the small screen with Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2. The series starring Kurt Russell wrapped filming last February. With such a schedule, a release at the end of 2025 is not out of the question. As a reminder, Grant Sputore is directing. The filmmaker signed I Am Mother. Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O'Connell, and Alycia Debnam-Carey are among the actors invited to the cast. The saga calls on Sam Neill, who abandons dinosaurs to devote himself to other gigantic creatures.
