Rockstar has just ended the suspense surrounding the release date of GTA 6. To the dismay of millions of players around the world, the game will not be released this year.
So, will it be released this year or not? Rockstar has finally answered this burning question about GTA 6. The American studio has broken its silence on its official blog by revealing the release date of its future behemoth. Thus, and probably to the great dismay of millions of players around the world, the next installment in the saga will not finally see the light of day in 2025. More precisely, we will have to wait until May 26, 2026 before being able to dive into this new adventure taking place in Vice City. A delay necessary to offer the best GTA Note that the launch of the title was clearly planned for this year. Indeed, Rockstar clearly specifies in its press release that this is a delay. “We’re truly sorry that this is later than expected. The interest and enthusiasm for a new GTA has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game,” the studio wrote. Unsurprisingly, Rockstar says it needs the extra time to deliver “the level of quality you expect and deserve.” While some may grumble at the thought of having to wait another year to discover the game, we can console ourselves with the knowledge that the studio wants to do things right. In the past, Rockstar has never hesitated to delay the launch of its most ambitious titles to ensure the best possible experience. This was the case, for example, with Red Dead Redemption 2. Originally scheduled for fall 2017, players were finally able to play as Arthur Morgan in this prequel a year later, on October 26, 2018.
As a reminder, until the studio's statement today, many of us were betting on a release in 2025. In any case, many elements supported this theory, such as the advanced release date of Borderlands 4. While the next installment in Gearbox's cult saga was expected for September 23, 2025, it will finally arrive on our consoles on September 12. It was no less than that to see a precautionary measure from Take-Two (editor's note: the parent company of Rockstar and Gearbox) to make room for GTA 6. But ultimately, Borderlands 4 will have all the end of the year to shine.
