We knew it even before it was announced: GTA 6 risks pulverizing everything in its path. After GTA 5 sold more than 210 million copies worldwide, to say that the next installment in the saga is highly anticipated would be an understatement. The proof is that as soon as its first trailer was released in December 2023, the Rockstar Games title was already breaking records by entering the top 10 most-viewed videos in YouTube history within 24 hours. And it continues with trailer 2, which in turn sets a new record.
GTA 6 pulverizes yet another new record
And no, this time it's not a record confined to YouTube, but rather to the internet in general. Because with a total of 475 million cumulative views across all platforms (YouTube, social networks, websites, etc.), the GTA 6 trailer 2 has simply become the most viewed video in history in the space of 24 hours. Yes, just that. It has thus shattered the previous records set by the trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine and Fantastic Four, which have 365 and 200 million views respectively.
On YouTube alone, trailer 2, however, performed less well than the first, with around 70 million views in 24 hours compared to nearly 93 million in 2023. But that doesn't take away from the exceptional performance achieved by GTA 6, which attracts far more public attention than any other game. At the time of writing, the video has over 92 million views, a figure that continues to increase as the days go by.
A considerable impact on the industry
As proof of GTA 6's impact on the rest of the industry, the song "Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters, heard in Trailer 2, has recorded a monumental jump of more than 182,000% in listens on Spotify in recent days. And when you see this, you immediately understand why other publishers are trying at all costs to avoid direct confrontation with Rockstar Games. This is what Hideo Kojima recently confirmed, revealing that the release date of Death Stranding 2 had been changed because of GTA 6.
