The One UI 7 update was supposed to bring some refreshing new features… but some Galaxy S24 owners feel like they got a battery vacuum cleaner instead.
After months of waiting and multiple delays, Samsung has finally rolled out One UI 7, its major update based on Android 15. Problem: since its installation, users of Galaxy S24 and other recent models have noticed a freefall in their device's battery life.
Indeed, on the official Samsung forums and Reddit, reports are multiplying. A Galaxy Z Fold 6 user says his battery went from 45% to 20% at the end of the day after the update. The same story is heard from S24 owners, who see their device draining the power much faster than before. However, others claim to have noticed no change, or even an improvement. This casts doubt on the true extent of the problem.
Update or battery drain
With its new features (live notifications, Now Bar on the lock screen, fluid animations), One UI 7 is a revolution for the Samsung ecosystem. But this transformation comes at a cost: the more demanding system is said to be placing greater demands on the processor and memory. The massive size of the update and repeated deployment delays also suggest unresolved bugs, potentially related to energy management.
Faced with the discontent, the community is proposing solutions. Some recommend clearing the app cache via recovery mode, or waiting 14 days for the AI to adjust resources. Others advocate a complete reset, a radical method, but effective according to some reports. Samsung, for its part, remains discreet, although a fix is expected in the May 2025 update.
One unknown remains: these issues would only affect a minority of users, those most active on social networks. With millions of devices updated, Samsung seems for the moment to avoid a widespread crisis. But for those who must now hunt USB-C ports like treasures, One UI 7 seems more like false good news. Unless time, or a fix, is on the way, it's better to arm yourself with a good external battery.
