PS5: A radical decision has reportedly been made for this future exclusive, it smells bad

There's been a lot of movement in the PlayStation catalog for several months. On the one hand, we saw the shutdown of the Concord game service last September. Then, on the other hand, the PS5 game library has slowly begun to welcome Microsoft's fist-party titles. Forza Horizon 5 led the way, followed by Indiana Jones, before the upcoming arrival of Hellblade 2. But what fans are really waiting for are Sony's in-house exclusives. However, things are looking pretty bad for one of the ones we were expecting soon.

A big PS5 exclusive soon to be shelved?

Clouds are gathering over Bungie. One of the latest entities to join PlayStation Studios is actively working on its next game: Marathon. Currently, this new extraction shooter is expected to release on September 23, 2025, on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series. But with recent controversies, doubts are beginning to hover over whether the schedule will be met, especially after a new report regarding this new exclusive.

In recent weeks, Marathon has been the subject of several controversies, and for good reason. Bungie has once again been accused of plagiarism, with supporting evidence. This is the third time since 2023 that it has been put in the spotlight for a situation of this kind. This time, it concerns the theft of assets from Scottish artist Antireal for the studio's upcoming shooter. This immediately leaves a stain on such a highly anticipated PS5 production.

This was revealed thanks to the recent alpha-test phases, the feedback from which has also been less than glorious. Several internal reports suggest a nauseating atmosphere. All of this is starting to weigh heavily on Marathon, leading to doubts even within Sony. At least, this is what a recent report shared by The Last Stand Media on its Sacred Symbols show suggests.

According to statements by journalist Colin Moriarty, the recent controversies surrounding Marathon have led to a disengagement on the part of Sony. In fact, the company has simply canceled all planned marketing campaigns. This surprising and alarming lack of promotional support could portend a delay for Bungie's game. The studio has already mentioned an internal audit following this plagiarism affair. From then on, he could take the time to further test his new game.

But, for now, this is just a guess. Marathon is still announced for September 23rd, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. We will have to wait for official statements from Bungie or PlayStation to know what the project is.
