ConcernedApe—Eric Barone, by his real name—can be considered a gaming artisan. He single-handedly brought the excellent farming-sim Stardew Valley to life. For nine years, he's been crafting his enduringly popular gem. That said, he doesn't want to remain a one-game man. A new project, Haunted Chocolatier, is in the works alongside continued support for the first. The developer is finally giving some news, but it's not quite what fans were hoping for.
Stardew Valley's successor won't arrive so soon
It's been said: Eric Barone wants to do things better. Not only does this mean he wants to take his time to refine future updates to Stardew Valley, but also to complete his projects in general. This is what he explained to TiggerBelly during an interview rich in information on ConcernedApe's productions, including Haunted Chocolatier.
During this interview, Barone notably mentioned "Stardew Valley 2." However, the developer dismissed the possibility of a direct sequel. He much prefers to focus on improving the current opus over time and on his new game, Haunted Chocolatier.
Wanting to do things properly, he warns that he will no longer discuss his projects too far in advance. Remember that Haunted Chocolatier was announced in October 2021. So, it's been three and a half years since this successor to Stardew Valley was announced, with no major new features revealed by Barone. And we shouldn't expect any anytime soon.
The show's host, Bobby Lee, asked Barone about the timeline for Haunted Chocolatier. The creator can't say anything for the moment. However, he acknowledges that there's still "a lot to do" on it. Especially since he wants to do better than Stardew Valley. Therefore, it will take some time. He hopes to be able to release his new game within the next five years. You will quickly have calculated: it could not see the light of day before 2030.
