True to form, The Boys will soon return for a fifth and final season as bloody as the previous ones. The runaway Supes of Vought International will face Billy Butcher's "team" (or what's left of it) for the last time. As for Homelander, he will, as usual, be looking for what he wants most in the world at the heart of the plot: find out what it is below!
Homelander, the terror of The Boys
During an interview with TV Insider, Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, revealed what the terrible Homelander wants most in the world... Headlining the series since the launch of season 1 in 2019, Antony Starr plays this small-screen sadist we love to hate with incredible talent. A creation of Vought International, this fake superhero, who has become completely uncontrollable over the seasons, is a resolutely abject being: he kills, rapes, threatens, and shamelessly manipulates those around him. This unhealthy and repugnant behavior, which he can indulge in without any limits for the simple reason that his power far exceeds that of all the other characters combined - Soldier Boy is still capable of standing up to him. But what is he really looking for? According to the showrunner, a little attention...
A superhero in search of love
Yes, for Eric Kripke, Homelander wants to be loved, it's his absolute quest, but he only manages to attract the fear of those around him...
What's interesting about Homelander - and I was just talking to Antony about this yesterday - is that it's a little tragic, actually, but at the end of the day, the guy just wants someone to love him. He's trying to amass all this power just so that someone somewhere will love him, but everyone is afraid of him because of all this power. I think the same goes for Soldier Boy.... [Homelander] just wants a father who loves him and is proud of him.
A statement that fits well with season 4 of the series, in which we see Homelander exhorting himself to no longer seek love from others in front of his mirror... As for the father-son relationship between the Protector and Soldier Boy, we have no doubt that it will spark in the sequel!
