The Witcher 4: Is this cult character back? Fans are worried

As a reminder, The Witcher 4 intends to launch a whole new saga for the dark fantasy franchise, taking place several years after the events of The Witcher 3, with an older Ciri who has become a full-fledged witcher. However, nothing is stopping CD Projekt RED from bringing back old characters, including the iconic Geralt of Rivia, who should be there in one way or another. However, the return of his other half remains a mystery.

Flou artistique sur le casting de The Witcher 4

Currently in full production, The Witcher 4 still holds many secrets behind the scenes at CD Projekt RED. We know very little about its synopsis, the state of its universe, and even the number of years separating us from the third installment. As a result, we know very little about the characters we might encounter at the controls of Ciri, whether friends or foes. This is particularly the case for a central character in the games and novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, from which they draw inspiration: Yennefer of Vengerberg, a sorceress and Ciri's adoptive mother.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, actress Denise Gough, who voiced her in English and also brilliantly portrays the imperial spy Dedra Meero in the excellent Disney+ series Andor, was unfortunately unaware of a potential return of Yennefer in The Witcher 4. "I have no information on that. To be honest, I didn't even know I played Yennefer in the previous game, and it was my first time working on a video game."

The actress had indeed recorded hundreds of hours of dialogue without ever knowing that she was lending her voice to Yennefer in The Witcher 3. This was due in part to CD Projekt RED's need for total secrecy, and the work was entirely voice-over-free, with no motion capture. Denise Gough, however, fully realized the importance of her superb performance after the fact. Unfortunately, she has apparently not yet been contacted to reprise the role in The Witcher 4. It should be noted, however, that the latter is not due out until 2027/2028 at the earliest. Anything can still happen in such a long period of time. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the Geralt/Yennefer duo will return to support our witcher Ciri, just like in the good old days.
