Following the fourth season, season 5 of The Witcher will conclude the Netflix series, adapting the latest novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. For this final adventure, the production decided to incorporate an iconic location from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
The Witcher season 5: one season too many?
This year, viewers will see actor Liam Hemsworth replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for the first time. Season 4 of The Witcher is likely to be divisive, as the British actor (the former Superman of the DCEU) was appreciated for his commitment to the series and his desire to respect the source material as much as possible, despite the production's choices which - conversely - moved away from it. This was the main cause of his departure and the anger of a large part of the fans. Furthermore, the series has made many mistakes during its three seasons, to the point of being panned by critics. We will then be curious to take a look at the figures for this fourth season without the star, and hope for Netflix that they are sufficient to allow them to finish their adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's books at the end of a fifth and final season. Skellige is also integrated into Sapkowski's saga, but more briefly. Yennefer goes there and visits a temple dedicated to the priestess Freya located on the island of Hindarsjall, and meets a priestess named Sigrdrifa.
This priestess will therefore be in the plot of this season 5, and her interpreter has even been found, in the person of Kate Dickie. If this name doesn't ring a bell, you should know that she's the actress who played Lysa Arryn, Catherine Stark's terrible sister in Game of Thrones.
This fifth season is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime next year. It was actually filmed at the same time as the fourth. The license will also extend to video games, as a very ambitious The Witcher 4 is currently in development at CD Projekt Red. This time, the player will play Ciri, in a role as the main protagonist that seems obvious after the events of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. His mentor Geralt, who was expected to be absent, will ultimately be there, but in a much more minor role.
